Today Laura and I drove about 377 miles (607 km) |
Hello again! I am currently sitting in the cab of the truck
at Alwin Holland Memorial Park. See!
Though I suppose I should be writing about how we got to
where we are, and not just jump ahead to the end.
Our day started off in Williams Lake. Since this was the first morning of our road trip, it was
the first time we had to figure out how to get me coffee. Laura doesn’t drink
coffee, which makes things nice and easy for her. However without my coffee I
get a headache, so it’s a must for me! I tried a Via that my parents gave me
and it was great! It's way better than other instant coffee I’ve had. Since my
parents only gave me one packet, I bought another type of instant coffee for
tomorrow. I really don’t think it will taste as good, but we’ll see…
That was a lot of focus on coffee…. Our drive in the morning
was very beautiful. It was more of the same – trees and hills. At one point we
went from the bottom of a valley to the top in what felt like an instant, which was very cool because
everything was suddenly flat, besides the large canyon-esque valley next to us. We stopped off at multiple pull offs that looked beautiful, including this lake. I can't remember what it is called.
A lake. I don't remember what it was called. But I do remember making my coffee here. |
For lunch we decided to stop at Bear Lake, which had a nice
day use area. We played Frisbee for awhile, and had some chips and nuts. So I
suppose it was a snack lunch. The entire area was beautiful because there were lakes left and right, and each was as stereotypically picturesque as the next.
A candid shot of Laura, she was unaware I even had my camera out... |
There was a nice green field that was perfect for frisbee! |
A nice sandy beach. We didn't touch the water because there was a parasite warning. Yes, it was just swimmers itch, but ain't no way I'm touching that water if I might get an unwelcome tenant in me. |
After lunch we continued on our drive. We also stopped by a water fall
simply because it is named Bijoux falls, and Laura liked that Liz Lemon went by
the name of Bijoux at one time.

Eventually we went
through the rockies. The rockies were very cool, we could see folding in the
mountains (in vertical layers, said Laura). Once we passed the rockies the
terrain changed just a bit. The trees became more deciduous and lighter in color. We
made multiple stops whenever things were pretty.
The Canadian Rockies! |

We reached Chetwynd by 4:30 in the afternoon. We had planned
on finding a place to stay there, however 4:30 just seemed too early to end the
day. We went grocery shopping, got gas and found an atm. We even went to the
visitors center which offered free internet to check in with the online world
for a bit. (We attempted to post Day 1's blog, but failed.) The folks and Brian and Jeff were able to gchat with us for about 10
minutes so that we could fill them in on our trip so far. Once we lost connection with them we drove up 12 miles north on Hwy 29 to Moberly
Lake and had dinner. Cucumber sandwiches and grapes! Delicious! We were once
again directly on a lake, so it was beautiful of course. See:
Figuring out where we should go next. |
By the time we
finished dinner, it was getting a bit later so we didn’t think we could make it
all the way to the Alaska Hwy. Instead we planned on trying to find a place in
Hudson’s Hope. Unforunately there are only two hotels, one which seemed more
expensive and the other which was booked. So, we headed back out of town a few
minutes to find our campground. We have an awesome little view of a river,
which is only awesome as long as we don’t fall into it. We are right next to
the cliff of a very cut bank.
Now my battery is dying so I should stop writing. We won’t
have internet to post this for awhile. Bye bye!!!
You drove far!!! Love all the pictures, so beautiful! :)
